Junior Events
Beach Events || Water Events || Carnivals
Each week you will be doing different activities such as beach running and sprinting, beach flags, swimming, wadding, paddling, team events, learning about the beach and weather conditions and generally have a great time. Throughout the season from U11’s you can compete in an inter-club carnival, you will get to travel to other surf clubs like Fremantle, North Cottesloe and Floreat, and towards the end of the season we have a qualifying carnival where you can compete in the Junior States Competition, usually at Secret Harbour. The carnivals are a great experience for competition and camaraderie.
At 10.30am each Sunday we have our Cottesloe Club swim and we would like all junior members from Under 11’s and up to join as well as your parents, it’s a 400m or so swim great way to finish off your club activities for the morning. Everyone is timed and is on a handicapped system.
Cottesloe have a BBQ each Sunday so after activities you can refuel with a hotdog. We will be asking parents to help out with a roster. Our Cott café is also available, serving Cottesloe’s best coffee and cool drinks. The BBQs (located in the club courtyard) are available for members to use any time.

Carnivals
For carnivals it will be important for one person to organize the club in terms of entries (how many and who), the packing of the trailer, with who will be doing this and then who will be towing it to the carnival. With the trailer it is also important that numbers of boards are considered from each age group therefore if only 2 long boards are needed only 2 are taken and the other spaces on the trailer are for the short boards. The tent or tents are also needed for the kids. Depending on the layout of the carnival with the age groups being spread out it would be best to have two tents, one at each end of the beach.
The age managers will also need a print out of the all the entries for their age group and a layout of the beach, so they are familiar with where their age group is and where the others are in case of borrowing kids for team events. There is also a bag for the juniors with caps and singlets in there. This bag will be needed to be brought to each carnival in case the spare caps or even the singlets are needed. It will need a clean out after each carnival due to sandy and wet equipment. Within the bag the march past gear will also be needed to be brought to each carnival (if a team is entered). The march past gear consists of the rash vests, caps and the club hats.
Depending on whether the age managers want them or not the walkie talkie’s will also need to be organized. They belong to the club so someone will need to find out where they are kept and bring them with them to the carnivals and or states.
Other things that need to be done before carnivals include:
- Make sure all entries are done
- Organise who is packing the trailer and then who will tow it to the venue
- Organize how many boards will be needed for the trailer (and both sizes)
- Make sure the tent will be there whether it is put on the trailer or if someone brings it with them
- Printout of the program for age managers with a copy of the beach layout
- Need spare caps and singlets for the team events
- Need march past gear
- Each age manager needs to bring their basket for the kid’s clothes in the arenas
- Walkie talkies
