Life Saving – Members
Patrolling Cottesloe Beach and ensuring the safety of all swimmers and beachgoers is the primary reason for our existence as a surf life saving club. Every Bronze Medallion holder of the club completes a minimum of 16 hours per season. Patrols are a serious component of the club and we must be ever vigilant to protect the members of the public within our patrol area.
At a rostered patrol, your duties will include:
• Observing swimmers
• Attending to any minor first aid cases
• Radio operations
• Performing any rescues as directed by the patrol captain
All patrols are done voluntarily. It is a great way to give back to your community.
Each patrol member must stand out by wearing the distinctive red and yellow patrol uniform which consists of red shorts, yellow shirt, red and yellow quartered cap and a red hat. The uniforms are supplied to you by the club. Patrols are rostered for Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays during the summer season. During the busiest months patrols are from 8am to approximately 6pm.
Patrols times for the 2012/2013 season are as follows:
October – 9am-1pm || 1pm-5pm
November – 8am-1pm || 1pm-6pm
December – 8am-1pm || 1pm-6pm
January – 8am-1pm || 1pm-6pm
February – 8am-1pm || 1pm-6pm
March – 8am-1pm || 1pm-6pm
If you are unable to attend your rostered patrol, it is your responsibility to arrange a substitute. Non-attendance at a rostered patrol will result in hours penalty being issued.

Patrolling members are required to pass an annual proficiency test, click here for details of what is required for a proficiency. The proficiency is a basic test of your life saving abilities and skills. This ensures that club members are proficient in life saving skills and capable of patrolling the beach.
