Cottesloe SLSC Update

Good Afternoon everyone,

Lots has been happening around the club. I’ve been saying that a lot lately. I think you’d agree that there is definitely a positive buzz around the club, across all aspects and disciplines. Carnivals are starting to kick off, the nippers and parents are enjoying themselves on Sunday mornings, Friday night is action packed with training sessions including a personal trainer as well as casual drinks afterwards. Summer isn’t even here yet, though is only a couple of weeks away. Photo’s from the recent Black and White Cocktail Party have just been added to the photo gallery on our website. It was a great night of enjoyment had by all!

Instead of me doing all the conversing this week, I will hand it over to Richard, James, Dean and Jill.

From our Club President, Richard Olson:
G‘day everyone,

How do you feel the club is progressing this year? I’d love to hear of your views, both positive or negative (how else are we to improve) at president@cottsurf.com or you can catch me down on a Friday evening after the Personal Training session / board training or Stubby Stakes that are on offer OR on a morning of Monday / Wednesday / Friday or Saturday whilst enjoying a coffee at the club café (after a swim/gym/run) OR on Sunday morning whilst I roam around the age groups prior to the announcements before the club swim!

If you’ve attended the club swims and listened to the announcements prior, you would have heard of the clubs need for a STREET APPEAL COORDINATOR! The position shouldn’t be onerous, you will be required to allocate the collecting tins and positions of collection points to members amongst other tasks. The Street Appeal is on Friday 11 December and has always been a great income earner for the club which means it’s been a great earner for you. If you have thought about this position, please speak with me about it as time is fast approaching. For all those members yet to obtain a Bronze (parents, probationary members or associates) this may well be a great way to contribute to the club, don’t just think about it, speak with me…

North Cott Local Area Carnival
Last week the Juniors had their first Local Area Carnival at North Cott. Well done to all competitors who participated in the true spirit of doing your best and fair play. Many thanks to everyone (Age Group managers, officials, parents, friends etc) who helped on the day. North Cottesloe SLSC ran an excellent carnival and made our Juniors and parents very welcome at their beach. Pictures will be on our photo gallery shortly.

From our Lifesaving Officer, Jill Ferridge:
Our 1st Bronze group candidates are sitting their exam this Saturday morning. Wish them luck if you see them around the club!

Patrols – Please be aware that there is a specific process for the handing out of uniforms. Each uniform needs to be numbered so that we know who has what uniform. Please don’t take a uniform without it being issued to you! Patrol captains will ask you to sign off on what size shorts and shirt you take. This will become your uniform for this season so you will need to look after and wash it yourself. It is now your responsibility to bring your uniform down to every patrol. If you forget to bring it, your patrol captain will send you away until you return in uniform. If you lose part or all of your uniform, you will be required to pay the cost of a new one. Patrol contracts will need to be signed at this time also.

Training – We are in desperate need of some motivated people who would like to take on a bronze training group. If you are interested in improving your skills and helping to develop the skills of new bronzies, please contact Jill Ferridge at jillferridge@westnet.com.au.

West Coast 1000 Swim – We need to source some water safety personnel for this event. The IRB Crew is ready to go, we now need to find 10 board paddlers, 5 rescue tubes and two people to be in a first aid tent. Remember, doing water safety at events such as these counts towards your patrol hours and is a great way to make up for hours missed on patrol. If you are interested in assisting with this event, please contact myself or Chris Inglis.

Key dates for you to remember:
Saturday November 21st – Bronze Medallion exam – Good luck to those involved!
Sunday November 22nd – Beach Series Round 1
Friday November 27th – Boardies Day, Round 2 of the Board and Ski Series and a display at the club by the Rare Coin Company starting from 5:30pm
Saturday November 28th – West Coast 1000 Swim, Hullabaloo Village Festival and Round 2 of the Navy Surf Boat Series
Sunday November 29th – Bay2Beach Paddle and a ‘back to the club’ Sunday session from 2pm to 6pm
Saturday December 5th – Juniors Christmas Party, 1pm at the club
Friday December 11th – 2009 Street Appeal

We have just received the next shipment of Membership Reward Cards. Next time you’re at the club, feel free to pop into the office and pickup your card. If you haven’t paid for your membership fees yet, this will be a reminder to do so in a timely manner as your access to the gym and change rooms has been switched off.

I’ll see you on the beach!
